Left hand vein removal at The Whiteley Clinic – Before and after – Mark Whiteley
Hand Vein Removal has become increasingly popular. Prominent veins on the backs of the hand can be very ageing. Occasionally they can also be tender if knocked.
Small veins that are not very prominent may be disguised by injecting fillers around the veins. Some also respond to foam sclerotherapy followed by compression.
However, at The Whiteley Clinic we have found that phlebectomy under local anaesthetic seems to result in the highest patient satisfaction.
Unlike leg varicose veins, these veins on the backs of the hands are not usually incompetent. They become prominent due to normal dilatation during life, and the loss of fat from the backs the hands.
It is usually safe to remove these prominent veins as there is a lot of venous drainage from the deep veins in the hand. Your surgeon will discuss with you which veins you wish to have removed and which are best to remove. We even remove some veins on the bottom of the fingers.
