1st Prize at the SVT in Manchester November 2019 – VSSGBI meeting – HIFU in Varicose Veins

Angie White won 1st prize for a new treatment of varicose veins at the Society Vascular Technologists (SVT) Annual General Meeting. This is part of the Vascular Surgical Society of Great Britain and Ireland (VSSGBI) meeting held in Manchester, November 2019.

Angie presented experience from The Whiteley Clinic. HIFU (Sonovein) treatment of varicose veins is exclusively available in the UK at The Whiteley Clinic. Her prize-winning talk was:

“The role of ultrasound and the vascular technologist in high intensity focused Ultrasound (HIFU) treatment for venous incompetence.”

Patient experience of HIFU (Sonovein) treatment of varicose veins

Rachel Walker, a vascular technologist at The Whiteley Clinic, also presented her experience of being a patient having HIFU (Sonovein) treatment.

Rachel works at The Whiteley Clinic in Bristol. Having seen the technique at work, she decided it was the best treatment for her own varicose veins. Rachel is therefore one of the first people in the world not only to scan for HIFU, but to also have had the procedure themselves!

Rachel’s talk was very amusing and raised a lot of laughs. Particularly her insistence to scan her own varicose veins (see picture!).

She has now completed her treatment of her varicose veins and is thrilled with the results.

HIFU (Sonovein) treatment for varicose veins

The HIFU (Sonovein) treatment for varicose veins is completely non-invasive. It is yet another revolutionary new varicose vein treatment introduced into the UK by Prof Mark Whiteley.

The Whiteley Clinic is recognised as a world-leading centre for treating varicose veins, pelvic congestion syndrome and other venous conditions. As such, many researchers and companies with new devices and techniques come to The Whiteley Clinic.

In this way, we are able to bring our patients the very latest and best techniques available in the world.

HIFU (Sonovein) is exclusively available in the UK at The Whiteley Clinic. Patients who are suitable for Sonovein have their veins treated without any catheters passed inside their veins at all. The treatment is non-invasive, with ultrasound being beamed from outside of the body into the veins to be treated.
