This evening, Professor Mark Whiteley spoke in the world’s first virtual veins conference. The conference was the EgyVasc 2020 conference and featured experts from all around the world. Prof Mark Whiteley presented a talk on “Is HIFU the future of Varicose Veins ablation”.

HIFU – High Intensity Focused Ultrasound

The first commercial HIFU machine to treat varicose veins is the Sonovein machine. It is called “Echotherapy” as it uses ultrasound. Sonovein is the first-ever totally Non-Invasive treatment of varicose veins. The ultrasound passes through the skin, focusing on the vein and treating it.

In this time of Covid-19, many of us have been using Zoom, Skype or other video techniques for webinars. However, this was not a webinar. In the virtual conference, everyone attended with their own Avatar. Delegates and speakers can go up to each other, shake hands and speak.
