Curing Venous Leg Ulcers – Lecture by Prof Mark Whiteley as part of VAI SENSEI program 9 September 2020

Prof Mark Whiteley has been invited to give a lecture on venous ulcer latest developments by the Venous Association of India. This webinar is free and is accessible to anyone who is interested. It can be viewed online via Zoom or via Facebook live (see details below).

Venous leg ulcers

Traditionally venous leg ulcers have been "treated" by compression bandaging and dressings. Unfortunately, even though this may slowly cure some venous leg ulcers, they tend to recur. The reason for this is because compression and dressings do not correct the underlying cause of the problem.

Having spent over 20 years researching venous disease, Prof Mark Whiteley published his book "Leg Ulcer Treatment Revolution". In this he highlighted research that started in the 1980s, suggesting most venous leg ulcers are due to venous reflux (varicose veins or "hidden varicose veins"). Research from The Whiteley Clinic has shown long-term cure from venous leg ulcers to be 85% when endovenous surgery is performed via The Whiteley Protocol. In addition, randomised trials have also shown that venous leg ulcers heal quicker, and have less chance of recurrence if treated with venous surgery. Despite this, most patients still only get offered compression and dressings!
