Leading Vascular Care in the NHS
As Consultant Vascular Surgeon at the Royal Surrey County Hospital, Prof. Mark Whiteley led the vascular department, introducing new techniques and improving patient outcomes.1998 - 2007
Founding The Whiteley Clinic
In 1999, Prof. Mark Whiteley and the team founded The Whiteley Clinic to advance evidence-based, minimally invasive vein care. Vein Treatment Innovation
Prof. Mark Whiteley and the team performed the UK’s first endovenous thermal ablation in 1999. We later developed the TRLOP technique for perforator closure (2001), pioneered microwave ablation outside China (2019), and introduced the UK’s first commercial HIFU for varicose veins (2019).1999 - 2019
Expanding The Whiteley Clinic
Starting from our base in Guildford, we’ve expanded to London, Bristol, Poole, Liverpool and Manchester. We perform all treatments under local anaesthetic, using duplex scanning by specialist vascular scientists, with personalised care plans by our consultant surgeons.2003 - 2025

The Whiteley Clinic is globally recognised for excellence in venous care, especially pelvic vein reflux. We’ve won the GHP Best for Varicose Veins Award from 2020 to 2025 and featured in Tatler’s Good Surgery Guide and other top media.2012 - 2025
Academic Leadership
In 2013, Prof. Mark Whiteley was appointed Visiting Professor at the University of Surrey. Prof. Mark Whiteley has supervised MD and PhD research into venous disorders, helping shape future specialists while supporting innovative clinical studies in phlebology.2013 - 2021


Pioneering HIFU at The Whiteley Clinic
In 2019, The Whiteley Clinic became the world’s first centre to offer HIFU commercially, providing a truly non-invasive, walk-in, walk-out treatment for varicose veins. The same year, it also became the UK’s first centre to offer Endovenous Micro Ablation.2019 - Present
