Do tight belts and sagging jeans cause Varicose Veins?
"We’ve had a question from Matt through the The Whiteley Clinic website in the ‘your questions’ sections, and Matt has asked about whether the way he used to wear his trousers, with a low band quite low down on the hips might have restricted his blood supply and caused a vein problem or even heavy calves. Well the good news is, that is not a problem.
The way that the human body is set out is all of the blood vessels are on the inside of the thigh and therefore any pressure on the outside of the thighs or around the buttocks aren’t really going to restrict the blood flow at all. It would be different if there were tight tourniquets around each thigh in turn because that would restrict it. But the pelvis and the hips form a nice arch which actually protect the blood vessels and therefore tight belts have no effect on the blood supply"
