Our Pre Med Taster Course students pictured below with Professor Mark Whiteley after completing the 8 week introduction course designed specifically for young people aged 15 upwards who are considering a career in medicine.
During the course the students covered topics such as the Skin and the Circulatory System, Medical Imaging, The Gastro-Intestinal Tract, Respiration and Airways, The Reproductive System, and How to take a Patient’s History.
The two hour long weekly sessions include in-depth lectures from our top consultants, sonographer and GP. The students were also able to participate in hands on practical’s and learnt how to administer injections into bananas, draw blood from fake veins, use a handheld ultrasound Doppler and how to stich a surgical suture.
Finally, Professor Mark Whitley and Consultant Venous Surgeon and Consultant Phlebologist Barrie Price, put each of the students through their paces as they conducted 1-2-1 mock Med School first and second interviews.
One student said “Thank you so much for this amazing experience, I learnt so much and it has really inspired me to pursue medicine as a career. I thoroughly enjoyed the course & every session has made me more determined.”
