Sonovein varicose veins treatment is revolutionary and non-invasive. Many people are unaware of it. Even more people have no idea what it might feel like.
David Levesley of GQ magazine is one of the first people in the UK to have Sonovein varicose vein treatment.
He has written an article outlining the whole patient experience from treatment to full recovery.
Sonovein uses ultrasound and so is also called Echotherapy. High Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) is beamed through the skin and superficial tissues. It is focused on the target vein, which is then ablated.
In this way, Sonovein treats the vein the same way as endovenous laser (EVLA) and radiofrequency ablation (RFA) – but from outside of the body.
Whereas endovenous laser and radiofrequency have to be passed into the vein, and then tumescent anaesthesia injected all around the vein, Sonovein is completely non-invasive.
Based on 20 years of research, treatments at The Whiteley Clinic recognised as amongst the most advanced in the world.
Hence it was not surprising that The Whiteley Clinic was chosen to be the UK Centre for Sonovein treatments.
Prof Alfred Obermayer started researching the effects of Sonovein in Vienna. Once the machine was given a CE Mark, Prof Mark Whiteley of The Whiteley Clinic performed the first commercial Sonovein treatment for varicose veins in the world.
