Chris Evans during his varicose vein treatment at The Whiteley Clinic in London, performed by Prof. Mark Whiteley.
Last week Chris Evans, Virgin Radio Breakfast Show Host, filmed himself having his “mountainous” varicose veins removed by Professor Mark Whiteley at our London clinic.
Varicose veins are easily recognized in many people as bulging leg veins on standing or sitting. Unlike other lumps on the legs, when lying down, varicose veins will empty and disappear. This is because the veins are filling from underlying veins that have lost their valves, and blood falls down the veins by gravity. This blood falling the wrong way is called “venous reflux”. This venous reflux fills the surface veins or “tributaries”. When this has been going on for a long time, the walls of the surface veins can stretch, causing the visible varicose veins.
Varicose Veins are visible on roughly 15 – 20% of adults. However, what is harder for many people to understand is that another 9-20% of adults have “hidden varicose veins” that cannot be seen on the surface.
If you want to know more about varicose veins and venous reflux, see “Understanding Venous Reflux – the Cause of Varicose Veins and Venous Leg Ulcers.”
Following The Whiteley Protocol, Prof. Mark Whiteley had created a bespoke treatment plan specifically for Chris Evans to ensure his varicose veins would be ablated for once and for all.
Chris Evans’ treatment plan consisted of the new Endovenous Microwave Ablation technique, currently only available in the UK at The Whiteley Clinic. Following this treatment, he had the TRLOP closure technique to ensure all his incompetent perforators would be closed.
The Endovenous Microwave Ablation procedure is a walk-in walk-out treatment under local anaesthetic, allowing one to get back to daily life almost instantly. Chris was sure to test this theory by making Kate Lawler record him jogging, 1 hour after his treatment!
Chris has been giving the public numerous updates post his procedure last week Monday. His treatment at The Whiteley Clinic has since been featured on The Sun and Daily Express websites. Prof Mark Whiteley was also interviewed by Chris Evans on The Breakfast Show the very next day post treatment to discuss all things veins.
A week and a half later and today Chris was eager to drop his trousers and flash his varicose vein free legs, on ITV’s This Morning Show, to Phil Schofield and Holly Willoughby.
